The Innocent Man vs Bad Convictions

"Wrongful convictions occur every month in every state in this country, and the reasons are all varied and all the same - bad police work, junk science, faulty eyewitness identifications, bad defense lawyers, lazy prosecutors, arrogant prosecutors." (quoted from the book of  "The Innocent Man"  by John Grisham).

I strongly agree to the above words. Adding to this fact, I have read and watched from the news that such injustice does happen in other countries too. After going through abuses in jail for a year including some trials and false conviction about homicide murder, some one was then released by the authority as they have found the real murderer. True, that he has his freedom now. However, such abusive and bad reputations in other people's mind have plunged its painful marks deeply. It will change his/her characters. It will change the way they see their future life and the value of life itself. The damage is already done. It changed someone's life already and no one can repair it anymore. The rise of depression and frustration can lead someone to commit suicide. Not everyone is as strong as "Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz" (the convicted men, see "The Innocent Man" book).

As the citizen, we could only trust on our authorities to do it properly. However, when the system does not support them then where else we can rely on our justice and fight for our rights?

Please take a look at FREEPAULCORTEZ.ORG. Wrongful convictions happen more often than we would like to admit. The appeal system is constructed to make finding the truth after a mistake very costly and difficult...why????
