What is Emotional Intelligence?

What is Emotional Intelligence?
There are some misconceptions that we might happened to see in our life about Emotional Intelligence:
  • "Gender-specific profile" of strong and weak points, as it is believed that women turn to think by heart while men think by head.
  • Emotional Intelligence was interpreted as 'being nice'
  • Emotional Intelligence was interpreted as giving free rein to feelings or letting it all hang out.
  • Emotional Intelligence was usually fixed genetically or was also developed only in early childhood like in people's characters.

Then why this thing matters now?
  • People desperately felt the need for connection, empathy and open communications.
  • Downsizing in organizations in which the remain people are more accountable and visible in managing one's emotions, handling encounters well, teamwork and leadership.
  • The globalization of the workforce.
  • As business changes, they lead to new challenges and demand new talents with 2 abilities that become crucially important. They are 'team building' and 'adapting to change'.
